Is Your Mining Job Resume Getting Read By a Real Person?

Did you know that the majority of recruiters, major mining companies and  ‘job websites’ first scan your resume with a computer program, or applicant tracking system, before it is even read by a real person? That is not all, even if you are qualified for the position you are applying for, if it doesn’t pass the computer program successfully – your resume will never be seen by the person hiring for the position. We were recently made aware of a video that provides a really good overview of how this ‘Applicant Tracking System’ actually works, and thought that a lot of people would like to hear how it works – especially those who have submitted hundreds of mining job applications with no response. Basically put, these Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) are looking for specific keywords in your resume (related to specific jobs) and will rank you before the recruiter even sees your resume. What this means is that if you rank poorly on the ATS, your resume doesn’t even get looked at – which could explain the lack of interviews or even responses. Simple Resume Tips for Passing Applicant Tracking Systems Include Relevant Keywords to the Job You Are Applying For Use Language Found in Job Description/Listing Don’t Send Resume as a PDF File Don’t Use Fancy Titles (Call Work Experience, ‘Work Experience’) Tailor Your Resume for Each Position.
